Nursing Recruitment in Ireland: A Thriving Landscape
With strong emphasis on patient-centered care, most of the nursing recruitment agencies in Ireland offer continual and marked improvement in the quality of workforce in the Irish healthcare system.
Based on this, NMBI has established clear guidelines for overseas nurses seeking registration to practice in Ireland.
NMBI Registration Requirements: Your Passport to Practice
As a healthcare recruitment agency in Ireland, we always ensure that our candidates meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) registration requirements. These standards are in place to maintain high-quality care within the Irish healthcare system. We believe, that understanding and guiding our nurses through these requirements is the key to a successful and compliant healthcare workforce.
According to (myNMBI) NMBI’s new online registration system, the application process is divided into two stages:
1. Recognition of educational qualifications (Stage 1)
Aligning to Irish education standards and requirements is the initial step in NMBI application process. IIHR registration team is always available here to guide our candidates in preparing your documents, certifying them, translating and clarifying all your queries in regards to the application assessment phase. This credential evaluation cross checks whether your highest nursing qualifications are equivalent to Irish standards and once completed will allow you to proceed towards registration.
2. Registration (Stage 2)
Candidates cannot start this registration phase until their qualifications are recognised by NMBI. This is a whole new application process and this is when the applicants are required to prove their language proficiency.
English Language Proficiency
Nurses must be proficient in English and there are 3 pathways to prove this.
Pathway 1: Trained in an English speaking NMBI recognised country. This pathway is only applicable for candidates applying from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Pathway 2: Registered and practiced as a Nurse in an English speaking NMBI recognised country. Eligible countries are the exact same countries mentioned above in Pathway 1.
Pathway 3: Complete either International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Occupational English Test (OET) and submit test results of same.
IELTS measures your English language proficiency across four skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. An overall IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 7.0 in any three components and 6.5 in any one component is mandatory.
When it comes into Occupational English Test (OET), Ireland has set the bar of 350 in three components and 300 in any one component. This is the score requirement for nurses who are aiming to work in Ireland. These scores offer dependable and precise assessment of a healthcare professional’s command of English language.
Remember, NMBI only accepts IELTS/OET test results within the last 2 years and will only accept one test result, no clubbing of two results are allowed.
